What is an AFL School Ambassador?

The AFL Schools Ambassador Program (AFLSA) aims to resource, recognise and reward teachers who strongly promote the game of Australian Football. Importantly, the program aims to establish an alliance between schools and the respective state football bodies to develop and promote Australian Football in the classroom and on the sporting field.

Who can join?

Any AFL-passionate primary school or high school teacher can register as an AFL Ambassador. We are seeking an ambassador in every school in Victoria and, depending on the school size, another AFLSA may be appointed.

What am I expected to do?

As an AFL Ambassador there are certain expectations that AFL Victoria holds:

  • Be strong promoter of Australian Football – especially how it can enhance learning outcomes for students
  • Be a positive advocate for Australian Football programs in school
  • Implement and promote AFL Education Packages in schools
  • Professionally develop and support other staff members in the area of Australian Football
  • Ensure participation of the school in all Australian Football programs
  • Be an active team member of football in your district
What do I have access to as an AFL Ambassador?
  • Access to free Curriculum resources and Professional Development
  • Access to AFL Schools Grants

2021 AFL SCHOOL AMBASSADORS OF THE YEAR

Primary School winner: Danielle Coates

Danielle has contributed significantly to some of the great outcomes that have been achieved with AFL Central Victoria in the local Bendigo area. She has strongly supported the promotion of the game within her school of 575 students, junior clubs and the community. In particular, she has been supportive when coming out of COVID 19 lock downs with some of the AFL CV promotions that have been on offer. The school implemented with FDM support, in school sporting experiences, supported our new initiative with an after school promotion, supported the development of SEDA College students to deliver programs at the school, being flexible and agile when it comes to our AMMI AFL Football Clubs Virtual experience, along with contributing to new ideas to support the effectiveness of these new initiatives. She has also promoted the importance of connecting schools to near by Auskick Centers/Coordinators and junior football clubs.

Secondary School winner: Vicki Hoban
School: Lowther Hall Anglican Grammar

Vicki Hoban, the Director of Physical Education and Sport at Lowther Hall in Essendon, is always engaged and open to participate in AFL programs.
