Funded by VicHealth, the program is built on the principles of having variety in your workout by using the unique combination of endurance, speed, strength, agility and dynamic movement.
AFL Active ambassador Rebecca Maddern said that the program was one all women should get involved in.
“It’s really important for women to keep fit and get out and about,” Maddern said.
“AFL Active is cut into four quarters, just like a footy match and there are footy themed activities, but you don’t need the skills of your favourite AFL star to get fit.”
VicHealth CEO Jerril Rechter said with more than two thirds of Australian women not getting enough physical activity each and every day, it was important to provide programs encouraging more women to get active.
“AFL Active is part of VicHealth’s 10-year goal of getting 300,000 more Victorians to become physically active.
“To reach this goal we’re funding targeted programs, like AFL Active, to motivate inactive women to get out and get active in their community. We want to see as many women as possible of all fitness and skill levels join in and have a good time.”
