Wheelchair Auskick to launch

The first Wheelchair Auskick centre will launch in Victoria in 2023

In an exciting development for the sport of wheelchair football, the first Wheelchair NAB AFL Auskick centre is set to launch in Victoria.

Kids aged 5-14 will have the opportunity to learn the sport of wheelchair footy with an eight-week Wheelchair Auskick program to be held at Boroondara Sports Complex.

The all-new Wheelchair Auskick program will start on the same day and at the same venue as Round One of the Robert Rose Foundation Victorian Wheelchair Football League (VWFL) on Sunday, May 7, ensuring a celebration of wheelchair footy.

The program has been established off the back of the successful junior wheelchair pilot program in 2022, and builds out the pathway system for a sport that is growing in popularity and now involves:

Targeted at kids aged 5-14 and focused on understanding and learning the game of Wheelchair AFL


COMMUNITY/DEVELOPMENT

Community Wheelchair Football League

For participants to continue their journey in playing the game and developing their skills in a community/social environment


ELITE

Victorian Wheelchair Football League

The pinnacle competition for the game in Victoria, the Robert Rose Foundation VWFL will again see five teams aligned to AFL clubs battle for supremacy across a 14-round season followed by finals, after the season expanded successfully in 2022.

Wheelchair AFL National Championships

The annual Toyota Wheelchair AFL National Championships provides Australia’s most talented Wheelchair AFL footballers the chance to represent their State/Territory and showcases the significant abilities of people with disability to the broader community.


The Wheelchair Auskick program is sure to bring new participants to the game and will help to ensure the long-term viability of wheelchair football.
